Hi, i'm probably being hysterical, you may say "o, he barfed and so what??", but i have no one here to talk about it so here it goes: Pikus (he is a year and a month old) vomited out of blue. It was 10 hrs after his breakfast and i found some kibbles not digested at all. Is it normal? How fast do they digest?
I'm afraid he may have food allergy cos a few days before he had loose stools in a scheme typical for food intolerance (first in the morning ok, every one after that worse and more loose). I did as you guys suggested in some thread and switch him into food with completely different ingredients - Hill's Adult Rice and Lamb. His poops are much better now, not perfect yet, but much much better. He is also in a good mood, playing, running and obviously hungry. We are dealing with ears infection (ear mite) also at the moment, he is being treated with Oridermyl ear drops pls a vet applied spot on on him, Stronghold. Treatment has been started Saturday, spot on applied Sat also. Is it possible he reacts this way on meds? I checked both leaflets, they say nothing about possible gastric adverse reactions. Oh, i now know those are ear mites cos went to the clinic with Jed last Monday and the other vet speaks English, so he just told me. So basically i have a pack of dogs with sick ears and a hysterical myself to deal with them! I think i mostly want to hear that all is going ot be well... editing at 03.15 am, he voimted again, this time pieces looked smaller, i'd say better chewed (he ate longer time ), but this time looks e empted his stomach completely. during the evening he drank much more water than usually. I'm terrified and of course it's a middle of the night. Vet in the morning. it's been after 7 hrs after supper. Last edited by hanasz; February 17th, 2009 at 08:23 PM. |

Must be nearly morning there by now? How is Pikus doing? When time is your vet visit?
We've had dogs throw up undigested kibble many hours after eating. Usually it's just a fluke...sometimes it's an indication of some sort of tummy irritation. that the vet finds nothing too far out of the ordinary. Please let us know what the vet says.

vet won't see us neither today nor tomorrow - i consulted him over phone, he assesed it's not an emergency and may be reaction on food changed too rapidly from puppy to adult kind. So far Pikus is ok, no more barfing, afternoon poop a bit too soft and a bit greenish. Started retching on walk, but nothing came, so as adviced i prepared him two scrambled eggs, soft, no fat. was VERY interested and ate all, licking his bowl clean. what worries me seriously is that he is not drinking.

He might be willing to eat ice chips if you smash up an ice cube. Our dogs love to play with them, and of course it gets them some moisture as they chew on them.
Another way to get a dog to drink is boil up some chicken in water with no salt. You can see if he'll eat the chicken (deboned), too, but cool the chicken stock and see if he'll drink that. I had a dog with a bad infection on her face that didn't want to drink. She loved the stock, though, and I could get the water into her that way.

Thank you, it worked great! he usually loves ice cubes and this time also he ate some. Other dogs also got ice cubes but not finished them so for a whole evening i stepped into small water puddles... there was no more barfing so yesterday at his supper time i cooked for him a small white fish fillet and he ate it happily. Today he won't drink again so in the morning i gave him 1 1/2 of cooked fish fillet plus cooking water and about midday chicken broth dilluted with water, again he drank it. After that he sipped a few sips of water but a moment later regurgled a bit, so the water went. As for now all the rest is still inside ;-)
