Question Urgent: Puppy Mill Dog - Information Needed Please

Can anyone help with the following please? I am asking this information for someone who has never had any experience in rescuing - but they are very concerned of bringing a Puppy Mill dog right into their home and that may be carrying fleas/diseases etc. When someone is interested in fostering a Puppy Mill dog (with the intention to hopefully adopt the dog) - what is the proper process/procedure before bringing the dog into one's home? Before giving the dog(s) out, is the group doing the rescue of the Puppy Mill dog supposed to go to a Vet and have a total check up? Is the dog supposed to be bathed? Is the dog supposed to be vaccinated? Can a human catch any diseases from a dog that would be brought in from the Puppy Mill and then immediately given out to be fostered and adopted? I would appreciate any opinions, recommendations, suggestions and information with regards to someone who is interested to foster a Puppy Mill dog - with the intention to eventually adopt - but has no experience at all. Also, any opinions on how to housebreak, socialize, take care of etc. etc. would be appreciated. Thank you.

It would be best for a vet to see the dog first. Dog would get vaccinated , treated for fleas and worms.

Do they have dog experience ? Although some puppy mill dogs are easier than some to train , if one never got any socialization , you need a LOT of patience with them. If the dog is scared of people , he will need a calm house to live in , with no young kids. They will have to take their time , do a lot of positive reinforcement.

Do you know more about the dog your friends want to take on ?

Thank you for your reply. Yes they have dog experience and are wonderful with dogs, but no experience with rescuing, socialization, housebreaking etc.
Do you know if after they are seen by the Vet, and if they DO have fleas....and are treated with i.e. Advantage.....will the home then be with fleas, and is there a probability that the person may get flea bites?

I wouldn't worry about the fleas (I replied in your other thread)

When I got my first puppy mill foster , I didn't have too much experience either , they mostly need love , patience , positive reinforcement , and time.

My first puppy mill foster never needed house training , she followed my dogs outside , saw them do their business and voila ! But I wasn't always that lucky

Thank you for your reply. The reason I am concerned is that the person who is interested in rescuing a puppy mill dog, has chronic medical issues and are with allergies - skin ailments, PLUS also dust, fur, dander. Plus at the moment she is being treated for bronchitis and has a pump. And she is a VERY very clean person - her house is spotless etc.....and as I myself also do rescues, (but never having done a puppy mill one), deep in my heart I feel that she would be better off with rescuing a more "normal" dog, without "issues". I dread the thought of her having fleas in her house .......
so, all of this being mentioned.....is there still the chance that even though the dog gets an immediate treatment of Advantage ..... can there still be the chance that there WILL indeed be fleas in the house, and that she will be bitten by fleas?? I know I might sound a bit "off" ..... but it is important to know because I just have a feeling that this might not be the right dog for her....? Thanks again!!
