Buddy hates Max (neighbours rotti mix)

Buddy hates our neighbors rotti mix "Max" Max is a good boy and stays away from the common fence, not Buddy As soon as he sees Max out in his yard, he throws himself at the fence growling, barking and going INSANE!! (Buddy about 50lbs and all fur, and Max 100lbs could kill buddy with one bite )
He now has a cut from the fence about 2mm from his eye!! I think some serious training is in order.......any pointers? What is Buddy's problem ?
Max is not fixed. Buddy gets along great with their other dog, also an unaltered male.

Buddy, doesn't like another dog I thought he loved everybody . I think I need to see pics of Buddy at the fence Any one will do, doesn't have to be with the rottie on the other side.

LOL nope, Buddy does hate some dogs.....he also hates the other neighbors pug, I think he thinks it's a pig because everytime she snorts at him, he wants to eat her I have worked on him with her, and now he just completely ignores her. But this Rotti, makes him CRAZY

I'll try to post some more pics tonight.............I have some with him and the neighbours new Saint Bernard pup, he loves her but does knock her down if we pay to much attention to her

yes ..........They picked her up last Sunday night, and both of them work full time days,

Believe me I tried :sad: the worst part is, he came over (we were outside) with her when they brought her home, and he said "here's my meal ticket"
I freaked and said, "no she's you pet, a new member of your family, if you can't eat, get a better job, and don't depend on your dog to support you"

At least I got them to change her food (they were going to get her royal canine) and I sent the dog food analsys site, so they could find a better quality dog food.

I cannot beleive how people veiw there pets! Ive waited soo long for my dog and It was a painful wait. I just couldnt live without having a furry companion by my side. I just dont understand why an animal lover like me had to wait 15 years, while these idiots can just decide they want a dog for money and just go get one. It just seems so unfair to me. And even more unfair for the poor poor dog.. Do they at least let the dog in the house?

You may be right.
I guess it's because they were never properly introduced, and have only ever seen eachother through the fence.

It could just be Barrier Agression, I've seen it in the shelter, take the fence or window away and they are fine. Have you ever tried to introduce them with no barrier inbetween? It's just a thought

I would, but since Max's experience with Buddy (he's about the same age as Buddy) Max is now highly dog aggressive, they brought an unaltered young female (she was only 5 months) and Max tried to attack her.
Your right It is probably a barrier agression with Buddy though.

It can happen happycats , Nelly doesn't seem to like other great danes but maybe it's only because she was on leash , like maybe with Buddy , because of the fence

I know it must be hard but , keep trying to educate your neighbor. When he said meal ticket , he meant breeding her ? If so , keep on trying , maybe you can get him to understand how wrong that would be.

I'm so worried Buddy is going to hurt his eye hopefully I can train him, I'm sure I can, because he is so smart

what if each time Buddy goes near the fence when the rotti is out and the aggression starts you distract him? you know like Ceasor Milan does? so that eventually he will avoid that area? Draw his attention from it by startinga game? or calling him over and when he calms treat him? I'm sure its because like others say he is protecting you and the yard...

It's always when I let him out either early in the morning or late in the evening (when he goes out by himself) so I never catch him until he is in full attack mode and hard to calm.
I guess I will have to start escorting him out.
It's so hard to believe my cute little powder puff could be that aggressive, considering he is such a sweet, quiet, and calm boy at all other times.

I know it is scary to see them "turn" this way but it does happen. Hobo is the same way with unfixed males...can sense them from a mile and DOES NOT like them ( I think he is jealous )

It probably is not a bad idea for the next little while to go out with him and redirect him when he goes into "the zone", especially if he is hurting himself.

Have the two dogs met in real life yet? Maybe try to get them to go for a leash walk together side by side to get used to each other. This has worked with Hobo with dogs that he needed to get along with.

I share in everyone else's disgust that this moron got another dog and plans to breed Poor pooch

We have a similar problem. Whenever we let Leia out in the yard, our neighbours let their small little guys out. And then she goes nuts at the fence. I think the little guys hear her outside and stand at the door, then our neighbours think the dogs need to go out and lets them out.

Our trainer suggested to put orange snow fencing about 12 inches or so away from the fence. Thus creating a barrier that is not the actual fence and then watching her outside and redirecting her away from it. Once she gets the idea out of her head to get away from the area you can remove the orange fencing.

lol that's funny because we put up the orange snow fence when this first started because we didn't want the dogs to be able to bite or hurt eachother. but that's how Buddy got cut, he broke/bit a peice of the orange fencing, making it sharp, which has cut him............*sigh* Same as you, Buddy goes to the door, and I think he has to "go" but he must hear Max, then goes right at the fence.....I now make sure Max isn't out.

I did ask my husband what he thought about burlapping the fence (they sell it now for tree wrapping) and he said no way!!?? I think if I burlapped the fence then they couldn't see eachother, so Buddy woudln't go insane


I have ask my neighbor to help, and let Max out this week-end when I ask, so I can work with buddy.

Ouch sorry to hear that. Maybe I should re-consider the snow fencing then
