Hello new owner of beautiful little puppy...

Hi there,

I am a new mummy of a 7 week old pup. I know now that she should have stayed with her true mummy until she was 8 weeks, (vet from vetcetera told me). When I tried to return her for a couple of weeks so she could go back to breast feeding, the mum owner would not take her back and said the mother dog would not feed her pups any longer. Soooo, i have her and am doing my best ...i have bought her a puppy den (gated little fence) so that she is safe in one area. But she really cries to get out and sometimes her cries scare me like shes hurt but she is just whining when i run to her den. As well today i had to leave for a dr appt when i returned she was not in her puppy den and was left out by my boyfriend who forgot to place her back in the play pen. So , when i returned she had been chewing and eating a plastic coil that was attached to my casino card. So now I have fed her water and am trying to watch her to see if she poops out the plastic. As well she had her first shots yesterday from the vet at vetcetera and I have noticed that she seems aggresive more than days before. I am worried she has caught something, as she does not have all her shots yet. So now I will bring her back to vet, asap. Dont know what else to do, she is now in her crate and crying up a storm, should i just leave her? Her cries are breaking my heart but I am too worried shell find something else to chew on and eat. As well will she be eating small objects forever or is this just a puppy phase?

Indeed it sounds like the pup was taken away too soon. The vet had said that the dog is more aggressive than last time - in what way?

If the puppy gets into things the pup will eat just about anything - so you must be very careful to monitor the dog. They are just like children in the crawling stages of life - if they can get their hands on it - they will put it in their mouths. Ensure that you remove all small objects from the floor and educate your BF as well.

Do not give the pup rawhide. Do ensure that you have safe toys for the pup to play with. If the vet says that they dog seems more aggressive ensure that you do not encourage tug of war with this dog (actually I never encourage this type of play regardless).

Check the fecal matter. Sift through it to see if any unusual objects are in there. Also - make sure that the pup is eating, drinking and has the same activity level as normal. If not, take the dog to the vet.

lol, ok if i read what you said properly, the puppy is being a little more aggressive, because that's what puppies to do establish their place in the pack. If you're playing with her and she gets aggressive, stop play immediately and give her either a loud OUCH or firm no. As BenMax said if it's little and interesting, into the mouth it goes. thats how puppies test stuff. Get her all kinds of toys, kongs, balls etc. to keep her mind stimulated. As for her crying in her pen, put a well worn article of your clothing in with her. DO NOT go running to her when she cries, that's what she wants, she will start to learn the crying isn't getting her anywhere and stop. Being so little make sure you take her outside frequently, and when she pee's and poo's make a big woohoo fuss about it. Pretend you don't have neighbours.

Im at univeristy right now and wanted to check to keep myself learning about Lilly Ok thank you and sorry my writing was all over the place...kind of how i was feeling last night a little overwhelmed lol. I will place an article of my clothing in her Pen thanks for the advice . As well I will get a Kong I have seen them in petcetera. I have a puppy daycare lined up for her next week and puppy classes start this Wed at 7pm....Ill keep you posted !! HAve a great day !!

It sounds like your doing the best that you can to get her a great start in life despite her going home too early. Doggie Daycare and Puppy Classes should help her loads, socializing with other dogs is important . Welcome to the board!

Puppies do tend to chew a lot ...the behavior usually lessens as they age, but not always.

Be careful with what article of clothing you put in with her...make sure it's something big enough that she can't eat it...no socks, for instance, or you may come home to a big problem

The Kong sounds like a great idea!
