So, you get a Friday AND a Monday off?!?!? That's kinda differnet isn't it. Canada Day was yesterday, so many people had Thursday and then today off too (including me!!!) But I do find that strange that you get a Friday and a Monday - why not just the Monday? Good ol' Bush up to his old tricks again....LOL

I meant I get off on Friday after work and than go home and do not have to go back until Tuesday. Sorry I did not say that right. It is so hard to try to get what you are wanting to say across a computer screen. No I only get Monday off but I think next year I will suggest the getting off on Friday as well. HEHEHEHEHE

I was told before "politics" was tabu.....do not go there.

I must be wrong once again.

I learn more every day.....

Double standard.

It's Okay for one to post certain post's about our upcoming elections but not for others..I "get" it now.

Politics Karin, are you off your rocker!? It was a question about holidays. All that was asked was if they got a day off. I don't see any double standard here. Stat. holidays. There was no talk about elections, or why the leader of the country should be another person. Just relax.

LR, that was a great link! Thanks! My "clicker" finger got a real work-out!

All of you, eat your hearts out! I'm off the entire month of July! Alas, unpaid, as I'm an 11-month employee at the college. But I love it. Den-Den and Puss-Puss love it. I plan on doing lots of gardening.

Karin, if you are referring to the post below by Chico, she was merely saying that SHE did not wish to engage in a political debate..I see no rules on this forum against discussing politics, as long as it's done in a civil manner.

This is an off-topic forum and you may discuss anything you wish, as long as there is no obscenity, racism or name calling of any kind.

I'm not really understanding your attitude of late.

to answer the question about "govt/federal" holidays....... we have Federal Holidays and on those all banks, schools, post offices, etc are closed, however with retail stores, etc it is up to the employer whether or not they close........... hope that helps

Federal Workers Holiday

Being a Federal Employee located in the states I can state with some accuracy that since the 4th falls on a Sunday we get Monday off.
A little known fact is that most federal employees are covered by negotiated union contracts (whether they pay any union dues or not) which gives them very good benefits, including holidays. Also the leave accumulation policy is not that bad either. While the leave accumulation is based on years of service once you get 15 years in the system you accumulate 8 hours of annual leave and 6 hours of sick leave for every 80 hours you work.
For those of us who do not take long vacation trips each year the accumulation of annual leave can become something of a problem since we can only accumulate 240 hours then it goes into "use or lose" status which means if you don't use it -- you lose it -- each year. So most of us "old timers who don't travel much" take a Thursday & Friday off when Monday is a holiday and get a 5 day weekend. Some of us also are able to work 4 - 10 hour days so those folks can work 3 days a week and take the 4th day off using annual leave accumulated.
This is most likley more than anyone wanted to know about stateside federal workers and their time off for the 4th..Smile.
Woody.
