Question I need suggestions for pet health care insurance please

I am in Canada and want to get a health care plan for my yorkie but don't know which company to go with. I've never had a pet health plan before. Can anyone give me some suggestion on the best company? Thanks in advance

I have a cat signe up with PetCare and a dog signed up with VetInsurane (i think they renamed to trupanion). I personally prefer the VetInsurance; we used them several times and they were always quick and helpful and i find it easy to udnerstand.

I really cannot advise you what plan or amount of coverage to choose, but I can tell you that I have 5 kitties ranging in age from 9 years to just under 1 year and have them all covered with Petsecure.
I can also tell you that premuims and amount of deductible or co-pay as the insurance calls it, will increase as the pet ages, regardless of your claim experience...amount of claims you submit to the insurer.
I continue to pay the premiums because vet care is getting more intricate and expensive and specialists are now available and in the long run, I feel I have benefited greatly from the coverage. One of my beloved Maine Coons became paralysed in all four limbs early last year...no one, not even the specialists were able to figure it out. Although I feel I was very much "over assessed" by the specialist clinic, Petsecure paid out over $5000.00 for his treatment. They also at renewal, increased his previous $200.00 deductible to 500.00 and increased the co-pay to 50% from 80% because of the claims experience. To the insurance companies credit though, when I brought up the fact that they were decreasing my pets coverage based on what they believed to be multiple medical problems....due to the fact that the specialist had every system in his body assessed, and the fact was he was cleared as fit in all the systems but neuro, they reinstated the original coverage. Currently, he remains on medications and these are paid by Petsecure each month.
Although at times I find it expensive for coverage, a huge bill and worry about not being able to pay huge medical bills, I will keep the guys all covered.
I have been treated fairly, but you do have to be proactive if there is any discrepancy about changes in your coverage.
Good luck, and get ready to get lots of love from your new fur baby!
