cat drinking water then vomiting

my brother has a cat who is approx 12-15 yrs old. she drinks water constantly and vomits. she urinates as much as she drinks and pees over the sides of her litter box to the floor. a lot of urine...she eats, but she sleeps by the water bowl and just drinks water all day long.

any ideas as to what he may be dealling with?

That cat definately needs to see a vet right away!! Those symptoms can be very serious (diabetic, infections etc.) and must be treated by qualified professionals.

you could also be looking at toxic poisoning, kidney failure, etc

This is PU/PD situation (polyuric and polydipsic). There are twelve common causes of this. Due to the age and clinical signs, renal (kidney) failure would be first on my list of the twelve, followed by diabetes and hyperthyroidism. All of the causes of PU/PD which lead to vomiting are very serious. They may be initially costly but many can be managed. The sooner action is taken the better the prognosis and less the cost. Blood and urine testing will be a starting point. Hospitalization may be required depending upon the veterinarians evaluation findings. Best of luck.
