Unhappy Please Help! Strange Dog Behaviour

Hi There!
My name is Lisa and I'm new here. I have a Yellow Lab mix named Jack who was born in Sept 06. Just to give you a little background, last November he broke his knee severely while playing fetch in the water and after 2 unsuccessly repairing surgeries he had his hind left leg amputated in February of this year. After only a couple weeks he was playing and is a happy healthy tripawed.
Ok, something weird started yesterday- It was just a normal day....no new visitors, no new outings or anything. After dinner, Jack started acting abnormally. If he stands up it is only for a few seconds and he makes sure that he is really close to someone else. He will then suddenly get these weirfd episodes where it seems like he's gone crazy and it seems like he's incredibly itchy only he doesn't know where to itch so he's just swinging his head back and forth until he gets so agitated that he runs away and we keep finding him in the basement in a corner or in the master bathroom floor in the dark.
He also barks out of nowhere for reasons unknown.
So, all the symptoms include:
  • irritability
  • apparant intense itchiness
  • fear of unknown
  • random barking
  • hiding

I also wanted to add that about an hour after this started yesterday, we gave him a bath in case he got something on his skin but that didn't help...and we also checed his skin for any irritations or fleas but none were found.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you check his ears? When I read he was moving his head back and forth, I thought perhaps they might be bothering him. Either way, a trip to the vet might be a good idea. Just to make sure nothing is physically wrong with him.
