new laws for blood sports in australia

well finally something good and useful has been done. blood sports (dog fighting and cock fighting) are still popular sports here in australia, alot of family pets are stolen daily to supply fighters (esp staffies and bull dogs, you get warnings on the news and in papers). so until now, a person had to be caught in the act of a fight to be charged, otherwise nothing could be done. yesterday they announced the state government (new south wales) and the RSPCA have developed new laws regarding the people who run and participate in blood sports. if a person is found anywhere (at the fight or home, car anything) with any implement that is used in these fights, to train for fights or implements related in any way to blood sports they will be charged. this is great and fantastic, hopefully it will help fight this awful sport and we will see an end in this lifetime to such sheer stupidity, yahooooo

great isnt it, were finally moving ahead, i just cannot believe that people still do that stuff, it truly baffles me. i am pretty sure cropping is illeagle here but tail docking is not in all states.as of the 1st june 2004 it is illeagle to dock a tail yourself in new south wales but if it is done by a vet it is legal. each state has its own laws for animals. it is illeagle to do it YOURSELF in all states but supposedly fine if a vet does it. (sarcastic tone applied here) oh but you can still do it to a sheep yourself, well why not chop of their tails yourself, buggered if i would pay a vet to do it humanly, they are just chops really

this came from the RSPCA/law section web site and i think it sums up australian attitudes to animals nicely-
it has been suggested that our anti cruelty status, in large part, reflects the dominant human/animal interaction in society and what the majority of people think human/animal relationships should be. it goes on to point out the laws refer to domesticated animals and neglect all livestock etc, and is painfully contradictory and cruel to all the non cuties in our world.

so really, society sets the standards and deems what is normal. it is not a fair decision based on morals or ethics or simply what is right, just societies overall attitudes and opinions toward animal human relationships so depending on the society, depicts animal care and treatment. oh great- no wonder the world is such a mess.

actually saw a woman driving a car the other day and on the back window she had a sticker saying ' i support docking' . i was driving behind her so i gave her a really hard time just road raging her a little, well i think that if she is allowed to be so grose and disgusting in her beliefs and tells the world about it i have every right to give her a hard time on behalf of the animals that she wants to wound, and i certainly did
