Budgie Information

I'm looking for some websites with general information on Budgies in them such as feeding, care, housing, wing clipping, and more. I'm thinking of adopting or buying one, but I really need more information about them before making the move. I'm concerned that I'll be able to provide for it's needs if I was able to have one.

SP are budgies native in other countries, i know they are native australians but not sure about elsewhere. i love budgies, had them as a kid, they were called frank and betty, lovely birds. here is an address to a good aussie site that has heaps of other links and good advice about care. budgies are not that hard to care for, i know they like eucalypt leaves though so im not sure about this one.

Don't forget to check on petfinder and local petshops that don't sell birds....many people advertise them as they can't keep them any longer. And you get toys and the cage to go with it, the whole shebang!

I love budgies. My mother always kept them when I was growing up, and next to African Grey parrots, are one of the best talkers in the bird world. I always remember ours yelling "HURRY UP!" as we got ready for school in the morning.

Unless your bird is going to be out of the cage most of the time, get the biggest cage you possilbly can, and put lots of toys, branches, etc in. Budgies are VERY intelligent and need lots of stimulation and attention. If you want it mainly to watch, get two for the huge cage. They are very entertaining and always busy.

also birds dont need high cages (they fly sideways not up and down, just amazes me what some people think), they neeed long cages to streatch muscles and fly a little. 6-10 wing spans wide is suitable depending on size of bird (10 wing span for a crow would be huge, so six for large ones 10 for little birdies).

Thanks for the information! That will be helpful. If I do get a budgie it would be out of it's cage a lot, so I wouldn't need a really big cage.

Isn't it infuriating when you see those round, narrow and high cages in petstores?? Especially being sold as cockateil cages. Too bad manufacturers of pet products wouldn't actually make things that are practical or useful for pets, instead of items that appeal to people!

Spoiled, if you want a bird that is tame enough to be out of the cage a lot, either adopt one that is already tame, or buy a baby and tame it yourself. Or, you may be able to find a breeder who tames his/her babies.

Adult untame budgies are VERY difficult to tame.
