Calgary area training?
Can someome recommend a good dog training place in the Calgary area? My Molly is an 18 mon golden and she needs a "reminder" manners class (or two) and after that I'd like to put her in agility. We did puppy kindergarten at a breeders and they were excellent but they only offer the kindergarten. Any suggestions?

Hi, I am in Calgary and have a 16 month old female devil in a gold coat...I mean golden retriever....
I use Pet Planet, here's the link. They have all kinds of classes, we did the puppy kindergarden, then pet dog manners, then level 2 manners matters, and level 1 agility...They have several locations, but the main training academy is on Blackfoot Trail, Manatou Rd. http://www.petplanet.ca/ I also use the day care there, and go to drop in doggie play on Wed. nights. I also use the Deerfoot location Resort and Day care too....it's near the new Deerfoot Casino on Barlow south. I liked all the classes, we are not currently enrolled in anything but I can still ask the trainers questions and they take good care of my ..I mean my .... I have also heard good stuff about Sit Happens and Bark Busters. Also, Brad from The End of MY Leash show on Slice works out of Calgary and has tones of classes altho completely different training methods then I have used in the past. PM me if you need more info or what to chat about the details. Oh, and post some pictures in the pic section...we love pictures!!

What are of town are you in? Please do not use Bark Busters or Brad Patterson. I have personally seen dogs that both have ruined. Pet Planet uses positive methods and depending on what area you are in there are plenty others out there.

If you go to: http://canadiangoldens.com/ you will see thread about Bark Busters and how it worked for other golden owners. But I think you are already one there. LOL!
we3beagles - I have heard and seen good things about both. That being said, like any thing else you research you find pros and cons, people have different experiences, so it's good that both opinions were posted. Again, I use Pet Planet for everything, you are right, they are positive.

Ford Girl is right and there are several Pet Planets in the SE. Positive methods work for most types of dogs and other methods do not work for different dogs. Some dogs absolutely fold under harsh methods and you can't teach them after that without a lot more work trust building. Stick with positive methods for sure.

I really like Brad Patterson, he is very tough, but knows what he is doing. Sit happens helped when emma was a pup. I also like J.C. St Louis, he is very tough, mostly deals with agression, but is good with other training too. We were reccomended JoAnne Leussinik, we took a class of hers and was very unsatisfied. She didnt seem to be very happy or into the training. We take our chocolate lab to Canine Country for daycare, and LOVE it. The people there are EXCELENT and little emma loves it! They dont do classes, but they work on training the dogs during the day. Hope that helps !!!

Dog Boarding School
Has anyone heard of an overnight boarding school for dogs in the Calgary area? My friends in Toronto sent their dog to a training school for 2 weeks and the dog came home completely trained.
