The winter pond and some birds

Most of the pond is under a blanket of ice and snow, can just see the really thin ice and the clear water from around the waterfalls now.
Lots of snow for the puppies to play in.
Lots of hungry birds this morning. Going through 50lbs of bird seed a week right now with it being so cold. And yes the budgie was down for breakfast this morning, but of course I was in getting a coffee when I saw him, not out with the camera.

I hear you with the bird seed. I have about 30 mourning doves waiting on the hydro lines for me to come out and feed them in the morning. And then the chicks and bluejays and cardinals join in. I love watching them.

clm,I love the House-Finches,I used to have tons of them in the summer,but only a couple this year:sad:
According to Cornell University magazine,House Finches had died off because of an eye-disease.
LOVE your pics,what about the fish in the pond? Do they survive?
Mourning-DovesI counted 32 last night,they looked like ornaments in the tree.
I've one Robin still sticking around,I hate it when they do and we have a snowcover,but they like raisins,another thing to add to the wildlife shoppinglist

Silly Robin, they'll take cracked corn from a feeder, so if you buy the big bags at Ren's make sure you get the mix with corn. I don't have them overwinter here often, but every once in a while one stays for the winter. Now the starlings eat the dry cat food that I leave out for the big cat (after he's finished eating of course, unless they want to be part of the meal), I don't know if the Robins ever eat any of it too, might be worth a try in your case.

Yes the fish stay outside all winter, and survive just fine. They don't eat at all until the water comes back up over 50 degrees. They stay down on the bottom and don't move around a lot during winter.

I have a groundcover bush with red berries and I sweep the snow off it,I've seen the Robin eating them+raisins,I've never seen him eat corn
clm,I buy the big bags of birdseeds at Rens,I just noticed they went from $17,99 to $21.95+tax,that's quiet a jump
Ever since the son took over,things have changed in the store,it used to be a mom/pop store,never changes in staff,now I see new people all the time
I got Rocky 11yrs ago from a staffmember at Rens,he was a barnkitty.
They are very dog-oriented now,which is a good thing,but to me it's hardly worth it anymore to drive there,except for my big bag of corn on the cob.
Costco just started selling 18kg bags of good quality birdseeds for $8.99,I am better off buying 2 of those.

Yes I know, Ren's has gone from being Ren's feed and pet supply to Rens pet supply, big change. Tons of staff, always different and the prices have gone up too, I'm not happy about it either. I buy the bird seed at Costco now, like you said it's good quality seed and cheaper. Like you, I get 2 at a time. Easier for me to lift too when I'm on my own.
I still have to get the Orijen at Rens, at least until more places start to carry it.
