Dog is a runner - help!
Beautiful mutt. Shepherd/border collie/husky male. Three years approx. Electric fence doesn't work. Stubborn dog collar doesn't work. Airline cable between two trees with chain/pulley/choker just causes gash in neck. PLEASE HELP. I LOVE MY RESCUED DOG! Police already been to the door threatening fine if he runs again.

For dog that are huskies, or part huskies, running is usually in the blood. The only thing you can do is put a fence, play with your dog on a long line outside, leash walk him and exericise him in a safe place. How long do you leave him outside? He may be bored and have no release for his energy.

As you found out, electric fences and choke chains don't work. I highly suggest you take him to obedience school, to train him and you too. This is big young dog who needs LOTS of exercise and training. And a fence! And NEVER leave a dog alone with a choke chain on!!!! I cannot emphasize that strongly enough. |

My goodness, everything that LR says!!
I know your heart was in the right place getting a rescue dog but you must put a fence up and be out there actively playing with this dog.

Huskies will do anything to run!
Those dogs and crosses of Husky's have so much hair that those electric dog collars (which we won't get into that) have little to no effect, a little buzz as they pass through is nothing compared to the open space and freedom on the other side!!! The best way to save your relationship with the puppy, neighbours and the police is to train the dog, and a fence. Take the dog out for walks and runs and a long lead would be great to then they can wonder a bit (if it's in a good area) ... and off leash parks... |
