overbite in german shepherd pup
I have a german shepherd pup who is just about 4 months old. The other day I noticed that he has a noticeable overbite. it appears that his top jaw has grown but his bottom one hasn't. The top jaw extends approximately an inch past the bottom one. This is the first I have noticed this and I check his teeth frequently. Is this normal or a cause for concern? It doesnt appear to be causing him any discomfort and he is eating fine. Can anyone help?? Thanks |

Undershot jaws can cause problems later on, since the teeth will not line up properly. Your best bet would be to discuss this with your vet.

Oh I completely understand what you're talking about.
Ask your vet to refer to a dentist. My collie has a really really undershot jaw and she just wore bite planes (like braces) to force her canines outwards so they dont' dig into her jaw. IT really helped a lot. BUT this is necessary to see a dentist, teeth being misaligned can cause a great deal of difficulty, pain and infection where skin is irritated from grinding and rubbing. The dentist said they like to do these procedures around 6mons of age. You have to wait until the adult teeth are fully in first.

Not yet, he is due for a check up very soon so we'll talk to the vet first before the dentist
