Michael and Judy Sowders have turned their home into a refuge for cats

SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) - Michael and Judy Sowders have turned their home into a purr-fect refuge for cats. The Sandpoint, Idaho, couple have 102 cats. The feline's eat 400 dollars worth of cat food every month and use up 30 dollars worth of kitty litter.

Michael Sowders worked over the past year to established the non-profit Life-Time Friends Animal Sanctuary and now he wants to expand his operation to include other abandoned animals, from birds to horses.

It's not that the couple were born cat lovers. Actually three years ago, they only had one cat named Buffy. Michael said he really paid no attention to her until she came home bleeding one day. She eventually died from her wounds, a fact that's haunted Michael. So he began volunteering at an animal shelter to deal with the guilt. His volunteer work quickly evolved into a job as an animal care assistant. When the shelter decided 10 cats in his care had to die, Michael took them home.

Different story.

Interesting article about Michael and the cat sanctuary. How he got started is quite different in this article than in his own "biography" on his website to promote the sanctuary.

Is Michael a kind hearted, wonderful man who is doing a great thing for the cats in his community, or is he a manipulative, lying cat hoarder who needs psychological help? Good question. Please investigate before you give him any more cats or donate any money.
