First Swim This Year

Well we finally got a chance to take Shelby for a swim, and OMG was she excited. Unfortunatley I'm not sure Shamus is going to be a swimmer...he kinda wimps out when it comes to water but he tried it out a little today.
Here's some snaps I took.

The 1st dive of the year!!

Maybe the water is too cold for Shamus ? Give him time, he'll probably follow Shelby soon.

Very nice pictures. I laughed at the one with Shamus slipping and going in the water head first.

Great pics. I laughed a lot at the one where Shamus slipped
I like his pranciness in the one where he has the stick too.

Thanks everyone lol, I don't think it's so much as Shamus wants to be like Shelby...I think he just can't stand to miss out on something.
It never fails whenever we throw something for Shelby, she'll only get it half way back to us before he rips it from her mouth and returns it to us trying to get some credit.
So we each take a dog and play seperatley with them so Shelby can have some fun without being ambushed.
Same as in the house with toys and beds, he has to hog everything.
We are trying to work on it with him but I think the Basset Hound stubborness is starting to really come out in him, it took us nearly 4 days to get him to figure out "lie down" and he can do it but is to lazy to comply.

I too love the pic where he is prancing, he actually ended up trying to bring the stick on a walk we went on shortly after, he kept banging us in the back of the legs and eventually he couldn't pack it no more and dropped it, though he picked it up and brought it to the truck on the way back

I can just picture him now trying to walk with that stick, lmao

I understand what you are talking about the "basset hound stubborness" Cassie suffers from the "beagle stubborness" and she is exactly like you have described. She is bossy and rules Hunter, even though he is so much bigger than she is...She hogs the toys, tries to take over his space, etc. I have taught her to sit, and give paw and say please, but other than that, it is just too much work. It isn't very rewarding for me, lol especially because I was so used to Hunter picking up on tricks so easily.

Lol Frenchy, she barks for a treat when I tell her to "say please". It is a little bark, more like a little "woof", lol

Awesome pictures . My doggies are the same, the bigger the stick the more interested they are in it. Makes for some interesting bruises on me though .

That is exaclty right HO lol, it is very frustrating trying to teach an "independent mind".
And yes it is not very rewarding....I feel so spoilt NOW, knowing how easy it was to train Shelby and then comes along Shamus who refuses to learn.
Food won't even motivate him enough to want to learn....his idea of fun is watching mommy with her head in her hands wanting to scream lol.
Some days he does his tricks but most days he just tries to look cute and play dumb.
I keep trying though since he is at that "optimum" training age, and I am TRYING to take advantage of it....patience I guess is all I can have I guess.

Yeah good luck Food is a great motivator for Cassie, but instead of connecting what you want her to do with the treat she just loses her mind trying to get the treat as fast as she can... The mind of a hound
