my cats health

Hi i am new to this so it will take a little getting use to .A month ago i went back to work after being home with my cat Heidi all day and night for the past 3 years and although i named my cat Heidi i found out that it is a he but i kept the girls name and i still say she, anyway i am now gone all day long and no one is home with her and shes extremely spoiled, i have treated her as if she was a child since she was 7 weeks old when i got her.she started by acting like she was real depressed cause i was gone all day now and then she slowly stopped drinking as much water as she use to and same with eating and she was overweight cause i was feeding her anytime she wanted food and giving her lots of treats thought i was being nice to her but now shes losing weight since i went to work again and is only eating a bite here and there and is not drinking much water now and when she goes to jump up on anything she seems not to have much strength and it takes all she can to get up on anything.she use to run after her toys etc and run to the door when i would come home and now she is not doing any of the things like she did before.I have been feeding her whiskas temptations for dental and whiskas temptations for hairballs and temptations the chicken ones anddry food purina lean dry cat food and i put it all in the garbage and cooked salmon, cod and hamburger meat and she wont eat anything and this is a cat that everytime she was awake use to eat. I just wonder if anyone of you have any idea what may be the problem with her, well remember it a he. i have a habit of still saying she.would it be because i went to work or is it the food and treats. please give me your opinions, shes just moping around but do not appear to be in any pain or sick but i dont know for sure because unfortunately they can not tell us whats wrong.this is also an indoor cat, she has never gone out and is 5 years old. thank you.well, the latest news is that i had to have my cat put to sleep on sunday, he was sick and ate the treats that were recalled anyway i took it very hard, stayed home from work for 2 days crying and then the next day i went and got two kittens and found out that they were born on my birthday, they will never replace my cat but they will help ease the pain and emptiness that i am feeling without him.they are so cute and they were from the same litter and they do everything together.

Well the food isn't a great food imo. You could take a look around the food forum, I think you will find that helpful.

But in the meantime, have you brought him to the vet???
That is where I would begin.

well, i tried yet once again to get her to eat a bit and she would not so i picked it up in my hand and cut it up in small pieces and she ate some. my hysband says shes being that way because i went to work and left her home every day alone, i guess i had her spoiled really bad and shes missing the attention during the week.

I'm not sure that's the reason.... Only a vet would be able to say for sure. There's no point in dreading the outcome, because you have no idea what the vet will say. Five years old is fairly young for a cat.

Good luck!

I would start with the vet check first. It is often very difficult to tell when cats are not feeling well.

Once you have been to the vet then definately go for a change in food. Look at higher quality foods such as Felidae, Innova, Wellness, Orijen which can be found usually at smaller "natural" pet stores.

If you can rule out any medical issues then consider getting a second cat to keep her company.
