This is the "Lucy"who kept me on a diet for 2weeks,since feeding her was my priority, she had six puppies only a day after this picture was taken, can you believe that..?
I cried a river when I had to leave her behind, her and I were constant companions for two weeks....but I am sure she will find another dieter...still,it's sad...She was such a good dog!!

I know what you mean! When I was in Curacao - OMG, the dogs! EVERYWHERE! I was at an all-inclusive resort and the people who served the never ending meals must have thought I was a pig, because I would order two or three hamburgers at once, and of course it all went to the dogs!

Barbardos is alive with cats! My husband was getting a little perturbed that I was spending all our money on cat food, but the worst (for him) was when he woke from a nap to find two kittens cuddled in bed with him.

I wanted to bring them all home!

Well, homeless cats are better off in Barbados than here. At least they don't freeze, and there are plenty of rodents and lizards for them to catch.

The dogs in Curacao were what really broke my heart.

I agree to a point Lucky,I saw the same on most Islands we've gone too,but never as many cats as in Cuba, they kept them because of mice and other crawlies..
The sad part is,that not all tourists like cats and dogs, with the result of one complaint many of the cats were missing one day
and in Mexico I know they shot most of the dogs, because of one female in heat and males howling at night, tourists complain and the dogs get shot.
Lucy was kicked in the stomache by a big idiot and god did I give him dodo for it.She had her puppies that night...
Yes,those cats were better off than ours at HS or on the streets, but there lifespan is about 2yrs
The big orange tomcat(in the first picture)took a liking to my husband, slept on his lap a lot, nobody bothered feeding him because he was very roughed up,hubby always gave him food..

Yes,it's hard to deal with and hard to ignore...but it's a different world than ours, most animals are not "pets",but are there for a purpose.I don't think dog/cat food is ever considered much less vets and since the people are struggling to feed their familys, dogs/cats is the least of their concern.I can understand, but do not enjoy a vacation, where I have to watch the misery of these animals. There is enough of that right here at home

Alas, I believe this is a hazard that we face when travelling to any resort type destination. In Boracay (Philippines) it was dogs that were numerous and not fed. In Honduras in February, while not as bad, I had a couple of cats that I consistently fed (luckily they were pretty plump so I suspect I was not the first). I think the cats in Honduras did better than the dogs in Boracay because it was mainly North American tourists down there. In China I simply could not go into the food markets lest I have my psychie destroyed.

When my parents lived in Malaysia, they fed all of the neighbourhood ferrel cats. I think they spent a fortune on cat food for the two years that they were there! They later found out that the lady that lived in their apartment before them did the same thing. Hopefully the next person carried the torch but, unfortunately, I will never know. We can only do our bit while we are there.....

One step at a time. At the very least we can do our best to try to save the animals at home!

My hubby and I were in Cuba in Dec...and I ended up with a puppy for a friend, he was so sweet. He didn't look like he sarving for food, only attention. It broke my heart to leave him as well. I wish I could have brought him home...

I know what you mean,on our way to the Air-Port I was crying my eyes out,the guide asked was wrong...and everybody in the bus yelled"She's crying for a dog!"
I was thinking of my"Lucy"looking for us,which she did every night and not finding us,she could always find us no matter where we were and it broke my heart
She would sleep outside"our"house every night and be with me when I had my coffee in the morning...
I could have taken her home,it's not impossible, but she had puppies.
But I am sure she found someone else, she was soo pretty.
