Weather and dog's heat

I've been told that because of the very mild winter this year it has messed up the heat cycles of dogs. We live in Ottawa and I am inclined to believe this. We put a deposit for a shepherd that was to be in heat end Feb/beginning March. She went into 2 false heats than nothing. So we got our deposit back, went to another breeder who had pups confirmed by ultrasound. They were due to be born March 20th. Guess what?! No pups. Looks like either false pregnancy & they weren't there after all or they didnt form and were dissolved into the mother's system. Has anyone heard of this phenomenan this year???

dont expect the best responses. this is a pro spay/neuter board. if you are having problems and being a reputable breeder you should consult your mentor

The OPs dog isn't the one being bred...

The OP has tried two breeders who have had dogs with funny heats...

The winter being funny has caused odd reactions in a bunch of dogs I know, just cycles in general of girl's not being bred. I haven't heard anything like the pups being possibly reabsorbed.

Ultrasound isn't the best... I mean, have you ever seen it? I'm amazed the techs make out anything at all.

I'm waiting to hear if the breeder we're getting our puppies from had a successful breeding to the female we're hoping to get our second puppy from in July. She's hoping to know in another week if there are going to be puppies from that breeding. It's the first I've heard of anything being amiss with the heat cycles of dogs.
Sounds like you're going to have a search on your hands to find a breeder. Did either of them have any contacts who have puppies or are going to have them? They usually travel in pretty tight circles at the shows and have lot's of connections what with the shows and breeding.
If you contact the GSD club in your area they should be able to give you a list of breeders.
