dog depression
hello, everybody!
I'm new in here and I've come for help. I used to have 2 dogs, mother & son. The mother has just died and the puppy (8 months old) is grieving for her. He is crying all the time, goes to the door, scratches it desperately. He saw me and my friend go with his mother to the doctor, which is where she passed away, so we came back...without her. I know dogs can suffer of severe depression from loss of a play mate and constant companion. What can we do to help him get over it? I even heard of Prozac treatments. Can we give him him Prozac for humans? we live in Romania and have no Prozac for dogs available, if such a thing exists.. |

I would give the puppy plenty of attention and affection. Frankly, when puppies are sold, they are taken away from their mothers earlier than 8 months. I'm sure he's feeling separation and 'grief' but if I think if you give him a lot of affection, he will bond with you s one of the pack and soon be better. I don't think I would mess with any medication, and certainly not people medication.
