Hi, I have a 4 1/2 month old Pomeranian. My sister used to feed her dry and wet dog food but now that the dog moves back to my home, my mother and my grandmother keep on feed her human food like meat from boiling Chinese soup and baked chicken and stuff like that. She won't even touch the dog food anymore. Everyday I have to throw out the dog food I prepared for her. I am just wondering if it's ok for him to live on human food. I tried telling my family not to feed him human food but they insist on doing so. What should I do???

The human food is probably better for her then the kibble lol
Lots of people use home cooked meals for their pets. Just make sure they're not getting any of the toxic foods like onions or any cooked bones.

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I'd put a list of foods that are toxic on the fridge or something, and tell your family if she eats anything on that list, she'll die. Maybe they'll listen...
You might want to give her some vitamins and supplements too, just to make sure she's getting everything she needs. Something like this: http://www.biologicnr.com/biologicve...s/biovites.htm |

I know a lot of people feed their pets human foods. We do that too. But you can only do so as snack or supplement otherwise they may get a nutritionally unbalanced diet. You have to be very careful with the salt & seasoning in human foods especially in oriental cooking. Too much of tasty human food will be harmfuf to your pet or at least make it a picky eater. Our dog had became one and it took us great effort to steer him right.

TKW, that's exactly what I am worried about. I guess the meat from soup boiling is fine, but they also feed him beef jerky, which is very salty. If I decide to feed him human food instead of dog food, what's the correct amount for a 4 1/2 month old puppy? Should I also feed him veggies? What about fish? He seems to like steam fish. Should I wash is with hot water before feeding him just to wash off some of the sauce? Thanks.

really, you want to feed food as natural as possible. No sauces. no spices. As for veggies, thats up to you. Dogs don't need them, and unless they're ground up, they get no nutritional value from them. But they do enjoy them as treats. Then again most dogs enjoy anything as treats
Just remember, no cooked bones!

The conversion factor for human food to kibble = your guess is as good as mine.
![]() Looks like your Pom has very good taste for food. The human food we give our dog is usually plain stuff DW saved on the side before any seasoning is added to her cooking. And we normally cut back a little on the kibbles if we mix human food in his dinner. He enjoys cooked veggie a lot. It sure helps his bowel movement. But you really have to be careful what to feed your dog. There are so many things that are harmful to dogs in human food. |
