A cold Human transfer to dogs

My little Benny a 10 month old schnoodle seems a little under the weather and all of my kids were recently sick can a virus be passed from human to dogs .If so what types (ie ) colds flus so on ) he is still eating but seems to be breathing a little heavier than normal is there such a thing as dog asthma . We are monitoring benny the same way we would watch the children for any changes so far so good .I had him out then other day he loves the snow and when he goes out for his buiseniss we try to keep it to a minimum but he always covers him self in snow and we put a sweater on him because of his haircut could this cause a cold.We have contacted the vet and if it gets worse we have a place to take Benny if things should get worse. Thanks for any help

It depends what they had - some diseases are zoonotic. But to give you a short reply - I read in a veterinary journal article recently that dogs really do not catch what we consider the same virus that causes the common cold. And even before I read that, it was always my understanding that dogs who catch what we consider a cold (something with similar symptoms to "our cold", sneezing and so forth) do not have the same disease. They can "catch" that virus from other canines.

Now, if anyone in your family had a streptococcal infection, they are susceptible to that as I understand but I am NOT a vet so I would check with him or her. I do not think it frequent for even that infection to be spread from human to dog. There are a host of other viruses and bacterial agents that can can be transmitted but I would not want to guess. If your dog has what you think seems like a cold, it is probably a dog illness and best diagnosed and treated by a vet. (and may have nothing to do with what your children had.)

just a little in put!!!! i was worried about my 10 yr old min pin 2 weeks ago, she was seen by our mobile vet and yes she did have a cold, but thank good nesss all back to normal brenda and the pins.

streptococcal infections for eg strep throat has been known the spread to dogs

A few years back a racing dog trainer was working in a kennel while he had strep throat, several dogs became very very ill with respiratory infections, with some dying it was later linked back to the trainer.

As far as I have heard the only one, but about 2 years ago another kennel of dogs became very illness, with several dying back tracking the vets found that the source was from a dog that came from a farm where horses there had the flu, it was the first time they had ever seen a transmission of this type from horse to dog

Thanks allot for all the sugestions and advice but im happy to say that benny is back to him self and my family could not be happier.I guess he was felling a little under the weather from his outings. We are trying to defur him from rolling and playing so much in the snow but i feel bad because he just loves the snow.In rasing children and animals i guess a firm Hand and voice and being creul to be kind is a way of life.Thanks again

Colds and flus are viral, dogs do not catch colds from playing outside in the snow, even my little hairless one loves to play in the snow
