Has anyone ever used avoderm (canned or dry) for either their cats or dogs? Thanks

I've never used it, but I have to say, unless your dog has a medical problem that requires low sodium, low fat and low protein, I don't think it's the right food for your dog.

I'm not currently using avoderm. After reading up on cat and dog nutrition I want to switch over to something better. I had never heard of avoderm before but the guy at the food store was really pushing it on another customer when I was there. My choices for food are avoderm, wellness, nutro natural choice, and canidae/felidae. My cat and dog are both overweight. Little Boy, my cat, could lose 3-5 lbs and Rascal, my dog, could lose at least 10 lbs plus she's been having reoccuring ear infections so I think she may have a food allergy also.

If your dog is having recurring ear infections that you think is food related then you need to find a new kibble with different ingredients. The food shouldn't have any corn (or derivatives) as corn is one of the most common causes of allergies. If it's chicken based you need to switch to a different protein. Are you currently feeding a brand from the supermarket or one from a pet/feed store?

I agree. And IMO, you shouldn't bother with diet foods as they usually end up making pets fatter (full of carbs and fillers). Just feed a bit less of the regular stuff.

And if itchy ears is a problem for the kitty, this wellness one might be best out of the brands you suggested:

I currently feed my dog Beneful Healthy Weight and my cat gets Purina Indoor Cat Chow. I know (now) that they are not that great. My dog is the one that gets the ear infections. Thanks for your help!

Oh, sorry. If it's the dog, then the Canidae Lamb and Rice should work well. And if not, then Wellness simple solutions or DVP Natural Balance foods.

I agree with the foods Prin posted. Canidae (and Felidae for cats) is the least expensive of the bunch and is a good choice. You will feed less with a premium food than you are with Beneful and Cat Chow. Also because it is better quality ingredients your dog and cat will be healthier. That means less trips to the vet too so, in the long run, it's cheaper to feed a premium food.

Just be sure to switch very gradually as the foods I posted don't have stool hardeners or other digestive aids in them, so your dog will have to gradually learn to digest on her own.
