long toe nails

My 3-yr-old Boston has long toe nails which are very dark at the cuticles. She demonstrates no handicap in jumping and running, but in appearance I have concern if damaged, infected or what. I would greatly appreciate any information or help you may offer in reply. Thanks, Milton
