Tell us your success stories!

okay, for the encouragement of those of us who are struggling along with behaviour issues....

tell us your success stories! Have you turned a dog's behaviour around when you thought it was beyond hope? Did you help a cat overcome a huge fear or problem? Is your pet 110% better behaved than he/she was years ago?

Looking forward to your success stories!

Umm... Well... When Jemma used to see a dog while in the car, she'd scratch the door like there's no tomorrow. With consistent leash correction and distraction, we stopped that. Now she sits in the car like a lady.

Boo... Well.. He has a lot of little bad behaviors that just drive you nuts. After 4.5 years, we have most of it under control (we recognize when he's not listening on purpose).

Meiko used to absolutely dispise other dogs and would want nothing more than to tear a strip out of any that he saw.
With alot of training, patience and behavior modification,he now only holds ampathy towards a few dogs. We can walk him in public without him trying to haul me off to another dog he sees and wants to pick a fight with. His ears still prick up and his body gets tense but nothing like before.
Hopefully in another 2 or so years he will also have over come this behavior problem as well.
We have had quite a few successful dog intros with him in the last 2 years ( much better when he was a "teen") He even has accepted the fact that Puppy ( another male) shares his turf. And suprisingly it only took about 3 weeks

Callie was my first spook the picture above was on the day she first arrived, she wanted nothing to do with people, she had be running away from me as I was trying to take the picture and ran to the corner here to hide away and I took the photo using a telephoto lense.

It took 1 1/2 years of daily outtings gradually exposing her the people at a rate she could handle to finally find comfort and joy in seeking them out for pets.

Once she became comfortable with people she would laydown and start groaning and rolling, her way of asking for belly rubs, unfortunately shortly after she overcame all her fears of people, she developed osteosarcoma

My love for Callie had me seeking out another spook, Maya was brought up from Florida and she proved much more fearful than Callie, she had no sense of safe distance, even seeing a person 50 yards away had her wanting to flee. Here she is in the back of the van on the day I picked her up, trying to squeeze as far away as possible, with multiple collars to prevent any chance of escape

I have had her for over 2 and 1/2 years now, it took about 2 years just to have her comfortable with me touch her while I am standing up, and she can can handle people about 15 feet from her now so she has made big strides albeit slowly which is okay, I learned from Callie there is now way to push the process without causing setbacks , but she is learning to enjoy life as a pet and loves to play and act silly and I am content to see her being happy
