Microphones in films
I recently noticed that in 2 movies (The Breakup and You me and dupree) the overhead microphone. 6 times in the breakup and twice in you me and dupree. THis happened to be in the same cinema chain...and I'm a bit suspicious.
One of our members in the biz suggested that it was bad editing....again I'm suspicious.... I was lucky enough to travel to Turkey about 10 years ago and saw a film there where I noticed the overhead microphone about 50 times. That MUST HAVE BEEN a non-legit film. Any comments on this? Have other members noticed the Microphone in the 2 films listed above or in recent films?

You know Marko I was thinking more about this and even the copies that are pirated are copied from the original they may be poor quality but it is still the original film. So I think bad editing still

Took the kids to the Drive in and we saw "Ice Age 2 "(very good by the way) and "Just my luck" in "Just my luck" the mic had a staring role, it was in the scenes more than the star.

Well the two that you saw are probably the same guys... I mean Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaugn are in this little hollywood gang and all their movies seem to overlap... Maybe when it comes out, if somebody doesn't have a life and has good eyes, they can watch the credits and see who was editing and doing the boom or whatever they call it.

But if we the audience can see the microphone - can't the camera man see it while shooting the scene??
These productions cost tens of MILLIONS. and then if the camera man missed it - shouldn't the editor have caught it?... If the editor catches it - can it be edited - I'm guessing so but I don't know for sure....and then when the director sees the final cut shouldn't THEY notice it before they say ok it's ready. This is REAL sloppy work if you ask me and it seems to happen often. Personally I think if I can see the mike - I'm watching a "B class" production and should NOT be paying full price for the movie ticket. It's like buying a piece of damaged clothing/furtiture, where you get a price reduction.

Ack...they usually have more than one editor working on many parts of the film, so things get missed.
I love finding errors/incontinuities...it's like a game. Also, one filmaker said once (can't recall who) that if a scene is good enough, he would prefer the mike be in it, then to re-do the scene.
