Does anyone have a cat shampoo/fur cleaner that really works good at getting stains out? My little man stuck his face in an unlit candle and has a huge black ring of shoot that goes from all the way around his ears too under his chin. I keep my candle on top of the fridge because he seems obsessed with it and tried sticking his nose in it one time when it was lit so up it went. It is one of those cheap great big jar candles that gets that black soot/ash around the top. Anyways it was quite comical this morning when I came out to the kitchen and I looked at his face. He gave me that look of..."what?!?...I didn't do anything" and I burst out laughing
. (If I had a digital camera I would post a picture) Anyways, I tried just water first and then hypoallergenic tearless baby shampoo, but it is just smearing around and won't come out. Anyone have any suggestions? I would really like to be able to look at him without bursting into fits of laughter Now when I laugh at him he just gives me that evil cat glare. (btw the candles all got locked in a cupboard now that I know he can get up there).

LOL! omg.... I too wish you had a digital pic of that one, I'd love to see it!
I know exactly what you mean about the soot... maybe a baking soda paste would take it off? (yet still be harmless to your kitty). or maybe even a cream of tartar paste? my point is to use something that cleans but if any residue is left on your cat, and he/she ingests a bit, it would be harmless. I frequently use cream of tartar (found in spice section of grocery store) to remove baked on gunk from casserole dishes - and baking soda works too (although not as well)... I'd mix a bit of either with some water, make a paste, dip a corner of a facecloth and gently try to rub the soot out of the fur. good luck! |

Can you try Nature's Miracle? It says it removes stains and odours and it's also safe for children and pets. Maybe put some on a cloth and try wiping the fur, or even using vinegar and water.
I don't have any experience in soot removal on cats. My older one only burnt the whiskers off one side of her face when she was a kitten, she never got so close again.

uhhh can I say "trim the fur"??
see i'm a painter and this one time i had a wet painting on the couch and i was looking to see where to put the finishing touches, and my cat came and sat right on it. And I guess I jumped and she ran off and for 10 seconds I was going around trying to debate what I should fix first lol. So since oil doesn't come out easy I had to chop off some fur. She still hasn't gotten over that incident....but the fur grew back

I`ve used hydrogen peroxide to get stains out of fur and it works.

I removed a stain from our cat's fur (have no idea what it was) with a mixture of baking soda and hydogen peroxide - much as one would if cat or dog was sprayed by a skunk. I have also done same with a baking soda paste made just with water - but this particular stain was huge so required the peroxide. Just make sure you have a fresh bottle as once it has been opened it turns to "water". Good luck - Plan B is "shaving" or letting it grow out.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions. Alas it won't come out, but it is wearing off slowly. He has such short fur on his face I would be afraid to cut it so unless he is willing to let me shave his face
it will just have to wear off. (and I highly doubt he would let me anywhere near his face with a razor/shaver, probably for good reason ) It has faded quite a bit, but I still get a chuckle whenever I look at him and he gives me one of those famous cat faces saying..."what are you looking at!"
