Question about Giving Cat Water
My cat has a upper resp. infection. We brought him to the vet, he is on antibiotics and is eating normally. When he wants to have water it becomes a problem because he will place his face near the dish and get water on his nose and start sneezing and then not drink again. What are some alternative to making sure he is drinking water? We were thinking of a fountain or something so that the water is running and he dosen't need to reach downward to get the water, and his depth perception is not that good. Any other ideas?

His sense of smell has been thrown off by the URI. If you don't give him canned already, try getting a strong-smelling flavour - they all smell rank to me, but fish is good - and add water until it is like a thick soup. That will ensure he gets enough liquid. Friskies or Whiskas are fine, the grocery store 'house brands', however, are garbage, avoid them like the plague.
Even when he's not sick, try to give him as much canned food as possible, it helps stave off urinary crystals, which male cats are susceptible to. |

You might also try giving him water drained from tuna fish.

One of my cats drinks out of a dripping tap, try to get him to drink that way it might work.
