Hello guys and gals, I am a newbie to the site so please bear with me... I need some help. Here's the story. I got Belle on Tuesday Feb 21. She is a American Cocker Spaniel. I left her home by herself yesterday. I enclosed her in a hall way since I am hoping to use the crate method for house training her. I put down newspaper and left food & water. I found that she threw up. I am not sure if I left her too much food. It looked like puppy food puree. She looked tired and her feces were normal at this point. She was quiet and wasn't playing. She almost threw up a couple of more times but only saliva and a mucous like substance came out. She didn't want to eat or drink. Her tummy growl really loud. When she went to the bathroom during the night, her stools were yellow and slimy. They told me to give her some Pedialite so she won''''t dehydrate. Is this puppy indigestion?? and if it is what can I do to help her?? Should I try feeding her her normal puppy food???? Please help.... Last edited by Lorena_fl; February 24th, 2006 at 08:01 AM. unexplained vomiting always warrents a trip to the vet - and the fact that she's very young - and came from a petshop.
Petshop pups come from some really bad situations (puppy mills) - no reputable breeder would ever allow one of their pups to go to a petshop. she may be sick (but only a VET can diagnose). Iams isn't great food (not the worst either though)... before assuming it's the food or indegestion, you should have her looked at by your vet (not the same the pet shop uses). congrats on the pup, but if you stick around here, you'll learn why we don't advocate getting a pup from a shop. regardless.. you have your pup now, so get her a checkup by a new vet and go from there. btw...I forgot to welcome you to the forum...welcome! |

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the cute pup.
Are you feeding her the same food as they were where you got her from? Sometimes puppies will over do the food if they are used to sharing and suddenly find themselves in sole position of the bowl. Good luck and we like to see pictures.

How is Belle doing?
If she wanted to play she might be feeling better. I sure hope so. Cockers are among my favorite dogs, they are so beautiful. Some people on this site are very knowledgeable about dog food and don't think IAMS is as good as it used to be. But if you decide to change her food it must be done gradually over some time. All the best of luck to you and Belle.
