Dog is bleeding from one nostril

i'm new to this forum. I googled info on dogs nosebleeds & came up with this. After reading some of the stories I am heartbroken. I have an irish wolfhound who has had 2 episodes of bleeding from 1 nostril in the last week. There was a really lot of blood. The vets did bloodwork & found nothing and put her on antibiotics. They said it might be a tooth abcess or a nose tumor. They suggested getting her teeth cleaned & then sending her to a specialist to get the scope done. This is all too familiar with the stories i saw on your forum. I have known for a couple weeks something wasn't right because she has been panting alot and very lethargic. It breaks my heart to think that she will be suffering and I am going to have to make that decision so quickly. She's only about 5-6 years old and such a loving dog. I am just sick over this..I guess I just wanted to share this because I'm so upset and not everyone understands the bond you have with your pet. She's with me 24/7 & my best friend. For those of you who have experienced this kind of cancer- what kind of time frame are we talking about? Do you think it'll be a couple weeks or less?

I'm sorry you're going through this, emmasgirl.

I wish I could give you some answers. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell how much time she's got left. Perhaps it's not cancer--on occasion a dog will develop an abcess from a grass awn stuck in the nasal passages. Fungal infections can cause bleeding, as can some of the tick-borne diseases. Even if it turns out to be cancer, it may be weeks, it may be months.

All you can really do is go forward with whatever testing you're comfortable with, hope for the best, and cherish every moment you have left with her.

Having the scope done before any teeth cleaning would be something I'd consider a priority.

I'm so sorry about what you're going through. Many people here , including myself , know how hard it is. Like Hazel and LuckyPenny mentioned , it may not be cancer. You have to go with eliminations , and hope it's something other than cancer.

Well you've come to the right place for support. First of all try not to think the worst. Like Hazel said, it may be something relatively minor. Like LP said, do the tests first that you want done. Why put your girl through a dental cleaning if (heaven forbid) it is cancer and her prognosis isn't good? She just wouldn't need the stress of it on her system, nor you the expense. Try to think positive. Please keep us updated.

Irish Wolfhounds are stunning dogs,don't jump to conclusions about cancer,there could be several curable reason for her nosebleed.

last nite when i first posted i was in a panic. today i've had time to rethink this whole nightmare and trying to figure out the next step. Am to contact vets again next week to let them know how my girl is doing on antibiotics & will go from there. Today she's been very quiet but periodically she gasps like she's having trouble breathing. She's eating ok but alls she's doing is sleeping...i dunno...something's very wrong. Thanks for your support, it helps to know others care. Appreciate it.

Hi Emmasgirl...try not to dwell on the negatives...keep up the course of antibiotics ...keep a close eye on her, and make sure she is eating, drinking & eliminating..give her lots & lots of love and reassurance...keep positive thoughts...we are all hoping & praying for a happy outcome.

hey bleeding is not a minor problem..i would reccomend you to go to the ebst vet so that the problem can be easily recognized...
i was facing the same problem and then later on i found that my dog's nose is damaged...so it is better to verify what actually is the problem
