herbicides causing fatal harm to pets

I am looking for information about the possibility of lawn care herbicides causing fatal harm to pets. Last evening without being aware that my neighbours lawn had been treated with herbicide I let my cat outdoors. At this time of the year she loves to spend time outside near to our property. At 10 am this morning I found her dead next to the house rigoured and with no apparent trauma. We were devastated.

Although I wish to assign no blame, I do wish alert others if the lawn treatment was her cause of death. If so there are more benign killers of cats to be wary of than the odd coyote!
