How hot does it get in a car?

I am doing a newsletter for work, and am trying to find some statistics on how hot it actually gets inside a parked car - hoping to spread the word and educate people to how dangerous it actually is to leave a child or pet alone in a car..... and how quickly something could happen. If anyone knows any info, or a good source for me to find this out, it would be greatly appreciated!
I have been searching the web and even the tv news station site but I can't find what I 'm looking for!!
Thanks!

This is from the helpinganimals.com site (which from what I can tell is a PETA sponsored site):

"On a 78-degree day, the temperature inside a shaded car is 90 degrees, while the inside of a car parked in the sun can reach 160 degrees in minutes. Animals can succumb to heatstroke in just 15 minutes."

Check this out... http://www.ospca.on.ca/libr_pr_2005_June7.html .

They also have a downloadable pamphlet "Facts on Dogs and Heat".

I would also do some tests myself. Park your car in the shade, put a thermometer in there and then give it 5 minutes, see what the temp is - 10 minutes, see what the temp is........Then do it all over again with your car in the sun. Although repeating facts found somewhere else will certainly suffice, I've always thought that providing your own testing results gives it a little more impact. Good Luck!

Thumbs up

Thanks all! The more people aware of how dangerous this is, the better.

I know that CFTO news in Toronto (CBC) did a thing on temperatures in cars, perhaps contact them?
