Unhappy Large Abscess possible E.Coli

About a month ago my female black lab had a huge hump on her back that became huge in about a week. I rushed her to our vet and he said it seems to be a fatty mass. I asked to have a biopsy done to eliminate the possibility of cancer. The pathology rpt came back neg. and I was elated it was not cancer. A couple of days later, she became listless and dayzed. Within the next day, she was more like dilerious and couldn't walk! I rushed her again to the vet who thought she might have experienced a stroke (a disease name that started with a "V". Vedicular disease I think). The Vet suggested I take her to the emergency hospital from there. I took her to the hospital and at that point there was a liquid on her back where the hump was. We thought she layed in something in the Vet's office. They took blood tests and exrays. The exrays came back ok but her white blood count was up to 56,000!!!! The hospital kept her overnight and gave her high doses of antibiotics. When I picked her up the next day, they had shaved her back where the hump was and it was nothing but raw skin! I had instructions to give her warm compresses throughout the day. It's been about 6 weeks and I've taken her to the Vet on a weekly basis for blood work to make sure her kidneys and liver are ok and so far they are. But she doesn't appear to be healing.
