"I was chasing the cows around and I happened to look out on top of the barn and there were flames shooting out the one window," barn owner Diane Drager said.

The fire was discovered at about 6:30 a.m. near Maytown on Donegal Springs Road.

Firefighters were able to save to save the house, but the barn was destroyed.

Drager said the family's chocolate lab Hershey alerted them to the fire.

"When we hear him barking," Drager said. "He's the hero."

Firefighters cooled down a cow injured during the fire.

They also cared for a cat that was burned in the fire.

There is no word on a damage estimate.
