Our first night of obedience!
Tonight Lady and I had our first class of obedience training together! She was fantastic! She really listens for the "click".
Only problem is, she got bored with the hot dog bits halfway through class. I need some suggestions for tantalizing treats that no dog would resist. My trainer suggested "Rollover", but I'm wondering what homemade, or cheapish treats you all use? Thanks!

I think you're giving her too many treats and she lost interest. Try using the random method - give a treat every 2, 3 or 4 times she obeys. You can then gradually phase them out altogether. You don't want your dog working ONLY for treats.
The random method keeps dogs interested. This is how casinos keep us at the slot machines. ![]() Rollover is great and most dogs love it. Same for dried liver treats, but these are expensive. Try getting a package of "Pounce" cat treats. They are very small so you won't overdo it, and most dogs just love them. |

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, it was hot doggie overload. I tried to mix it up a little bit by offering praise and kisses as a reward (which she loves) and then by pretending to eat (
) the raw hot dog and make a fuss over it. I will probably try to get some liver treats and rollover and mix it together. Thanks again!

You could always try the 'show dog nibble' - you know where the handler lets the dog taste the treat, but doesn't actually give it to them? I do this when I working on 'easy' so that Hazel won't try to take your fingers along with the treat!

We actually used what lucky suggested, the pounce. We also used the show dog nibble which is hilarious because now you can offer ozzy air treats (nothing but air) and he will actually chew them even though nothing is in his mouth

When we are in puppy class we use hotdogs, cheese or a mixture of soft treats. We were told to have 5 different kinds so that the dog doesn't get bored with it. Also be sure to cut them really small. It is amazing how a dog will work for a really small treat and then they don't get full.
I was told never to give cat treats to dogs, not good for them...
