Smile House of Flying Daggers

Another movie with the same people as Hero, but with a better story (IMO). The dialog in English is not top notch, but it is another beautifully shot movie. There is a shot of a dense birch forest in there and it's just beautiful. And the bamboo forests too. I just love how they make the woman equal to the men in capability (except when guys are on top of her for some reason...).

Anyway, if you liked Hero, you'll most likely like this one better (the story anyway).

Justin is dying to see this movie! I told him we would have to find a time. Is it still at the theater or out on DVD. If so we will go see it there if not I will just go buy it. We have so many DVDs and movies. I will tell him you really liked it I am sure he will!

It's already out. It's not as colorful as Hero (they don't have the dances as much or the fighting with the huge material stuff...), but like I said, the story is better.

What don't you get?
Don't read this if you haven't seen it...

The army guy following the guy and girl is actually from the house of flying daggers. He was undercover and was in love with May. Then the real army guy also falls in love with her and vice versa. It's all part of a plan of the Flying Daggers to kill the whole general's army by luring them into the woods.

i got that (the actual story and events), it was the ending. . . . what was the deep rooted meaning?

I'm sure there must have been some anicent proverb that was illustrated, but I didn't get it. . . .

I never get these films. . . . I didn't get Couching Tiger, Hidden Dragon either. . . . .

. . .maybe its the subtitles. . . .i need to learn to read faster. .

Again, don't read this if you haven't seen the movie...

I think the end was just a test of her love. To see if she was just bluffing and at the same time to make them both suffer. The army guy suffers more watching her die than if he had died too and the girl suffers to know that he didn't really throw the dagger. She killed herself for nothing. It's just tragedy. These movies all seem to suck every last drip of tragedy out of their stories... Like Romeo and Juliet to the extreme. That's my version of it anyway...

She had to die, it was a love triangle: she fell in love with someone she shouldn't have, an enermy and betrayed the person who went undercover just for her...She had no way of repaying back to him, so she had to die. It was a classic Kong Fu movie ending.

Bamboo scene is a classic in pretty much all Chinese kong fu movies, so director Zhang Yimou didn't want to break the tradition.

I will. I loved Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Maybe it will come on The Movie Network soon.
