Tongue hangs out - what does it mean?

My 11 month Golden puppy often has from 1/2" to 2" of his tongue sticking out of his mouth. Does this signify anything in particular or is it just him? He sleeps with his tongue sticking out and walks around like that too - just wondering...

He's probably panting when he's awake and then dreaming of panting when he's asleep.

Given his age, I'd say he's just being obstinate!

Other than that, I wouldn't worry. We had a dog that would pant, then close his mouth while about 3 inches of tounge hung out the side. He looked like Stimpy!

Well I sure got some neat responses! I, too, think it soooo cute - his "little" tongue sticking out the front of his mouth.. Sure enjoyed the picture of the little one too! I haven't seen any other dog do it as much as Bobby does so I was just awonderin'.... Thanks everyone.. When I learn to add pictures to messages, I'll post one of Bobby with his tongue out...

I take it that he can fit his tongue in his mouth all at once right? He just chooses to let it hang out? I only ask because I've known two families who had to have their dogs tongue 'trimmed' down because it was too long for their mouths. One of them was a pom and the other was a boxer. As long as he can actually get it all in his mouth when he wants - I would think that he likes it cuz it makes him look cute - and he's right!

Yes, his tongue does fit in his mouth - when he wants it to. It just seems he likes to stick it out!
