Kayla and Me

are new to this site. Just wanted to say a quick hello.

Kayla is a 2 year old black American Pitbull that I just inherited when my daugher and her boyfriend decided to move to Alberta. Little did I know when I agreed to take her, that I was getting a very smart dog, who knows how to open cupboards, doors, eat shoes off the feet of people who are wearing them at the time, and likes to spread her food all over the floor before she eats it.

Working on letting her know who the boss is right now, and so far I'm winning, but we have a long way to go. She has had very little training and is incredibly strong, which makes her quite a handful.

Here's hoping I can get some very useful advice from the list.

Kayla and Me

Welcome, Kayla and Me (I love that screen name).

I am a golden retriever & mini dachshund person myself, but there are lots of pitty owners here and we are all more than willing to share our experiences.

I am sure with a little work, Kayla can be a wonderful pet.

What part of Toronto are you in??? Some of us might be closer than you think and can lend a "paw" first hand

Thanks for the welcome.

We are in the Greenwood and Queen area of the city. Near the Beaches.

Great neighbourhood. I am an ex-Torontonian, living in Montreal now. How are you neighbours about the new pitty laws? Everyone on the board was very upset to see the BSL pass.

Oh, by the way, the new person gets the donuts and pictures, please. Lots of them.

No problem! Chocolate or honey glazed?

I'll get some pics soon. So far the neighbours have been good from a distance. They made it clear they don't want Kayla playing with their dogs though, even muzzled. It's sad really!

WELCOME fellow pit owner

I would also love to see pictures of your pit bull. I have one pit bull (actually, she is MY dog), one boerboel, and two birds. I'm trying to talk my husband into adopting a white deaf boxer right now. I have taught two of our dogs in the past sign language and I'm partial to deaf dogs. My husband is resistant since we just got the boerboel and he is a lot of work right now.

I'm so sorry to hear about the laws up there. We have no such laws here. My pit, Jazz, is such a sweetie. The neighbors love her, but it did take time for them to get to know her. It might just take time and a little education to turn your neighbors around.

I'm relatively new too, but I have enjoyed my time here so far.

Welcome to the board!! Please PLEASE post some pics of Kayla!!!

You'll be happy to know, Pitties are fairly easy to train. They are super smart!! But then again, she's in her teenage years so you will have some challenges as with any other teenager!!! LOL

Hello Kayla and Me!!!! Welcome to pets.ca!! I am a pit bull owner as well! We live in Brampton.

I am sure that we can help you out with Kayla! She's still young and full of energy!! I would suggest that obedience training would be a must, it's the best way to teach them who's boss! I don't know what the training would be like now that the bylaw has passed... if they are forced to wear a muzzle during class...

Hope you stick around! There's lots of great people here!

Hello Kayla and me and welcome to the board. I have an almost six year old, bought him as an American Staffordshire Terrier, now known as pit bull, named Rocky. Im a first time dog owner and have learned lots here as Im sure you will. Also Im sure you will enjoy the emotional support now needed by alot of us "pitty owners" I live in the Harbourfront area of Toronto so were almost neighbours and Im trying to organize a fund raiser for the legal costs in fighting the ban so if your interested that would be great too! Anyway welcome and I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do!

Count me in!!! Thanks for all the support folks. Love the site!

I gave my daughter a Bark Busters training program in the fall for Kayla, but alas...her and her boyfriend were just so inconsistent with her, that only a little of it rubbed off. I gained custody 2 months ago and have been very consistent in re-instituting all their great training ideas. She is great in the house but a hooligan outside. Hence...I have just placed a call to get them back here to help me with some more training. That's the best thing about Bark Busters...it's for life!

Kayla and Me Welcome. fellow pit owner here!
all I can say is that you have the right idea and you used a very key word. . Consistant! If your not then they get confused. So if Kayla atleast has the idea of training and whats right you atleast have somewhat of a good start. And I heard bark busters is great too. Any animal owner knows that training is forever really!

Again hope you enjoy it here!
By the way Kayla is gorgeous. Im a little partial but gosh darn shes sweet!
