dirty kitty
Hi all, any suggestions as to what i can do to stop my cat from peeing on the carpet and my mats in the the bathroom? I bought new mats for the bathroom, figuring if he couldnt smell the pee then he wouldn't do that, but nothing has worked, I keep the liter box clean and he does use it, but he's also using the carpet as a liter box too. I'm at my wits end about this. Any thoughts on this would be a great help.......Thanks.

Is he neutered? If not, getting him fixed should stop the spraying. He's just trying to mark his territory.

I agree sounds like he is marking his territory....get him neutured if he is not already this may help. If he is already neutured then I am not sure why he would be doing this.

I agree with the others, if he's not neutered that's probably why he's not using the litter box.
If he is neutered, not using the litter box may be a sign of some kind of urinary problem and I would have him checked out. My cat with a UTI used the bathroom carpet for a litterbox to tell me something wasn't quite right. Good luck. |

We had a cat that would not use the liter box and we took her to the vet and she had a UTI. So if he is not fixed than a vet appointment needs to be made. Make sure you clean everything real good (when you think you can not smell it! He can) but this will only help if he is fixed. Because he will mark everything.

Also, make sure his litter box stays clean. My step-mom's cat refuses to use his litter box if it's dirty.

Sometimes, and this may sound strange. An animal, cat or dog, will urinate on rugs because of the rubber backing and the smell of underpadding. If possible remove the rugs that he is using and if it stops then you have found the problem, and will know how to correct it. My cats at times have preferences for clothing lying on the floor. Or he could prefer the texture of the carpet/rug. But I personally think that it is the smell of the backing and underpad. Hope it helps.
