flossing kitty
hello all, I am hoping that someone out there may be able to answer this rather strange question about my cat Shaymas. Shaymas sleeps at the bottom of my bed every night. In the morning when it's time to get up, shaymas jumps off the bed, stretches, and runs over to any kind of hanging string he can find-eg. mini blind strings, jogging pant strings. He then proceeds to pull the string through his teeth. My husband and I like to joke that he is flossing his teeth, but we are still puzzled as to why he is doing this. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks! |

You know, that's a very good question. I've seen my cats do this, not everyday though, and also they stick their back claws between their teeth. I don't know if they're trying to bite their nails shorter but to me it looks like they bite so that the nail is in between the teeth. I'm anxious to hear what others have to say about it.

Dogs sort of do this sometimes too, they sort of chew on material things with their front teeth. Maybe it's itchy gums?

You'd think the itchy gums thing would be a part of teething, just like babies wanting to gum clothing.
I don't know how old the OP's cat is but mine are well past teething stage. |
