Paint

Today while my fiance and I were out of the apartment, at class, our landlord came in and repainted our bathroom. We knew he was going to come in at some point this month but did not know it was going to be today, so we did not shut our cat, Tink, in the bedroom. So when we got back home we found the bathroom door wide open and all of his equipment (ladder, dirty towels, the cans of paint, excetra) in the living room. I'm so nervous Tink might have gotten into something she shouldn't have, especially after the scare we just had with the string in her intestines and the surgery. Or, could inhaling the paint fumes be bad for her? She is acting fine now but should i contact the vet in the morning? Thanks so much for any advice!

First of all your landord has to give you 24 hrs notice that he is going to be in your aparment when your not there, he cant tell you "some time this month" and show up. I would have been very angry if this was me, as for your cat keep an eye on her, to see if she starts acting differently. I would inform your landlord to call 24 hrs in advance to let you know hes coming so you can be better prepared.

Agree with coonlover - your landlord's behavior is kind of outrageous!

Anyway, most cats won't go near paint or turp or anything that smells like that. Unless the paint is oil based and the cat was stuck in the bathroom breathing the fumes, she's probably fine.

My advice? Buy a house!

Would your cat hide out anyway if a stranger was in the apartment?

Thanks guys....Tink is just fine, i don't know what to be worried about anymore, after the surgery, so i guess i just worry about everything . Prin, Tink would only hide out for the first few minutes....the phrase "curiousity killed the cat" comes to mind . As for my landlord, we live in a tiny apartment complex and he's very old and means very well but a gentle reminder is definitely in order. And Lucky...ahhh a house, yes, after college, and student loans, and the wedding....a house will be great, especially because a house means dogs for me! Thanks again for the advice!
