Looking to adopt a deaf dog

I recently had a deaf dog for adoption, and he recently got adopted in a wonderful family.

Today, I got a call from a hearing-impaired person in Montreal (Bell impressed me with their system) asking about Lil'Ricky. He was looking to rescue a deaf-dog. So I told him I would look around, as they are not easy to place. Most people don't want them. It took a long time for Lil'Ricky to find his permanent home.

So if there are any deaf dogs out there in need of a home, please let me know. I have sent him my application form, but have not received it back yet, so no screening has been done. Due to the hearing impairment, I didn't actually "speak" with him, so at this point I don't know much about him.

We have been deaqling with www.deafdogs.org a lot of them are in the US, but occasionally they have Canadian listings. Also, many of the dogs on the site can be transported. We are currently talking with a lady regarding a deaf dog in Nevada.

So you must have seen Lil'Ricky on their site. He was in the boxer mixes category. They did a wonderful job posting him up there. I was quite impressed with the site.

This is such a great orginization and a great site for info and if you think a deaf dog would be harder to train you are dead wrong they are actually very easy once you have mastered the look at me or watch me command. So next time you are thinking about adopting consider one of these special dogs

Also..... just so you know, Merlin (the Dal, posted by Lucky) was at our local shelter for a LONG time. He is absolutly adorable, and just about the sweetest guy going. I really wanted him...... but he seems to be an only dog kind of guy :sad: , at least according to the shelter. ALso, a little big for my place. I would love to know that Merlin got a great home.... he really deserves the best. :king:

Actually, Lil'Ricky is now in his new home and doing wonderful. He was the foster dog I had here when I joined this forum. Lil'Ricky is the most special of all my rescues, as I had rescued Pregnant Mom who gave me 8 wonderful pups, Lil'Ricky being the runt I had to bottle feed him. Then, the fact that he was deaf made it hard for him to find a forever home. I am happy to say that his new family adores him, even though he is showing signs of some separation anxiety, they assure me he's a keeper and cannot understand someone not wanting him just because of his deafness.

He truly is a sweet dog, as they all are!
