I just signed on....2 kittens, cool! Is she cleaning them & being attentive? I wouldn't fret about her getting cold, if she is with them, they're warm enough. (Heaven knows there's enough feral kittens being born around here outside, and it's way colder here!)
![]() Maybe a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel, something like that, but I doubt it's necessary. I am sorry about the stillborn kitten....I will check back for updates.

well nothings changed yet. the two kittens are sleeping, shes getting tired though. the fourth one isnt coming as quickly as the others. shes been working on it for about 30 min and just the bag thingy is coming out. i am leaving her alone completly to let her concentrate. she had the first one in my lap. i couldnt get up for a couple hours cause if i did she did. i got one of those electirc heating pads. the ones for your back, wrapped it in 3 towels and put it on low. the kittens are on that while she works on the next one.
she cleaned them up very well and ate all the icky stuff. is it normal for there to be blood? not lots but some? ive only seen horses being born....big difference. i was expecting a still born. most new mommys have one. least in dogs ive seen it.

She had one in your lap, no kidding? That's really sweet. Go Ghullum go.

Ghullums mom,I have never seen a cat birthing, but it sounds like you've done all the right things for Ghullum,I hope she's ok and a good mom.
You know we'll want pictures as soon as possible. A word of caution, she can get pregnant again very quickly,so having her spayed as soon as possible is very importan. My memory is failing,I don't recall how she got pregnant in the first place. Anyways,I am happy she's ok and had 4 healthy kittens...pics please :love

Congrats on your new members to your family. Chico is she the one that breed her cat becuase she was pretty? I can not remeber either. But I am glad that mommy is okay and babies are doing fine. That is sad about the still born kittens though. So are you going to keep them all or what is going to happen to all the babies. I have never heard of a mommy cat sitting on a persons lap during the birth. What a great moment you will always remember.

You have 4 beautiful kittens now... you don't need anymore do you?
I am glad to hear that mommy and babies are doing fine. Poor still born baby... ![]() |

She had 2 healthy kittens, again no one is reading.
Ghullums Mom, How are the 2, how is Mommy doing? Is she spending much time away from them? How is she interacting with them? Has she moved them yet? The blood was normal, no worries there as long as it wasn't excessive. How much did your little girl weigh before she got pregnant? Now that she's feeding them, she may want a lot more food then she did when she was pregnant, this too is normal. If she's hungry, feed her. A nursing Mommy can never eat too much. What colour are the 2 surviving kittens? Pic's please..... I've never seen kittens born, my old dog had a litter of pups when I was younger. I just thought cats would have more kittens then 4, seems like a small litter. Were all the kittens born in their sacks (bag thingy's)? If they were great, if not, she may still have some afterbirth in her birth canal, please watch her litter habits to ensure all fluid and tissue is excreated or she can get an infection. The fact that she was eating the afterbirth is wonderful, it shows she understands what happened, and how to care for her babies. Her body needs that to start repairing itself and get back the minerals and vitamins lost during pregnancy. I'd be worried if she didn't eat it. Her cleaning habits should increase now, she'll spend a lot more time cleaning herself, and caring for the kittens. Don't be surprised if she does not want to leave the area you've set up for the babies, except to use her box. I'm no VET, but, I hope this helps. Give her a big kiss for us, and share some pics of the babies please. Are you keeping them, or adopting them out? Congrats on you new babies, please share pictures |

In reading this I am confused
My mom had a cat years back that had 1 kitten. The kitten came out and looked to be still born, but with rubbing the chest the kitten was revived. I am just wondering if the kitten/s that were still born just needed the rubbing on the chest to get them breathing? It upsets me that the kitten/s were thought to be still born. I am not pointing any fingers just making a suggestion. Was that even tried? Sometimes when a human baby is born they come out blue and appear still born but they just need help with circulation and breathing. If this were my cat I would have done everything for the little babies. Again not pointing fingers but I am really saddened by this. |

It is so sad. I hated to hear that some of them did not make it. As much as I hate to say it... It was probably for the better is this little kitten was not fixed it would have not had a good life. Having liter after liter that is no way for a cat to live. I wonder why a kitten is still born?

A lot of reasons they could be stillborn and over the net is not a good place to try and diagnose why.
Be sure that the placenta has come out with each kitten, and yes the blood is normal. You should have them in a box of some sort with padding like towels and that should keep them nice and warm. As they grow you will need some kind of enclosure to keep them reigned in. A child's wading pool works really well. Then they can't get everywhere. Mama will look after cleaning up after them for a month or so. Your big job now is to keep things clean, make sure they are gaining weight, and give mama kitten food and lots of fresh water. I've fostered a litter of 6 kittens to a stray that showed up on my doorstep highly pregnant, so if you have questions let me know - I had a lot of good help during the process and learned a lot!

Congrats Gullham`s mom
I think you did a great job! And when you didn`t know you asked at the site that has tons of info.
Sometimes animals have still borns ( even in planned breedings with top breeders) it happens. It would be really hard to explain why............. something like trying to diagnose why some healthy women with uncomplicated pregnancies end up having their babies die............. my answer to this is "it is not in our hands" sometimes these things happen for reasons we won`t understand. Puppies and kittens are also born with cleft pallets for no apparent reason, I don`t think we can say that the reason she had still born kittens was because of her reason for breeding her cat. Let`s just try to remember why we are here and put the flame throwers away okay? She was at least honest enough to come on here and ask for help from a group of people who obviously know a lot............ she could have kept it all to herself. For you mommies to be........... if you ended up in a situation where you didn`t know something about your pregnancy and you came to ask advice from people who DID know....... would you want to be torched? Please don`t let this get out of control. What is done .......... is done.........and if she needs advice give it to her ( if you have answers that will help) If you just want to judge then you are not helping. I would hate to have another new member leave here thinking that this site is not as helpful as they thought it would be or were told it was. Gullham`s mom, keep in touch with your vet as well, they can help you with any questions you may have. I have never had kittens so I can`t help. I have been around to see kittens born but have never had to care for newborn kittens. My sister, on the other hand, has been around a lot of kittens as newborns( she is a vet tech and AI tech) so if you have any questions let me know and I will ask her. She is always willing to give advice for free Keep us posted on the kittens progress and how Gullham is doing okay? |

I agree dogue. What's done is done. She has been informed about contracts and spaying and with any luck will do this. However, in the meantime there are four little lives she is trying to take care of and when she asks for a little help why don't those with answers just provide the information they have.
Would you like her to go running and be left alone at home with no answers, trying to figure it all out for herself?? improvising doesn't always work with kittens and puppies...it is better to know what you are doing (or at least have good information to guide you). |

Girls,girls,girls..Ghullums mom got enouigh lectures about spaying/neutering in her original post and we did come to the agreement she would never breed her cat again.
Unlike many"breeders"here, she realized her misstake and we promised to give her support, since the deed had already been done. The kittens according to her all have homes waiting and will be s/n.. as well as the mom.

There's not flame throwers here... I don't think you understood the jist of the post... once again, you're assuming that I am trying to start something.... we were speaking about nutty's post where rubbing the kitten could have brought it back...*IF* this cat was bred by a professional breeder - that would have been known.... If you're a professional breeder, and complications arise during delivery you would know what to do - or who to have there should something go wrong, am I wrong?? No one said that these kittens would have survived should they have been bred properly, the statement was simply that people with no knowledge of breeding have incidences like this that COULD have been avoidable.
Quote:
Should I have complications during my pregnancy or a still birth I would be in hospital with professionals, right??? Then someone there would understand if there is something that can be done. Not me sitting at home, going "oh well." Please, don't try and assume that I am out to get everyone...if you don't understand what was posted, clarification works too - without assuming right?? I think it was you Dogue, that expressed that point to me. You're right, what's done is done... that wasn't even a question here. There are helpful answers to her questions... even though we tried to help her from the start... ![]() She's done well with these kittens! I hope they all find a forever home! |

I wasn`t lookin to start anything
Sammie you must have misunderstood me as well............ It happens.
All I was saying is that this happens even when the pros do it and for no reason that makes us feel any better about it. My hope is that Gullham`s mom will continue to ask when she doesn`t know something because that is how we learn. Please don`t think I was looking to argue with anyone. Everyone here has their points to make and mine was simply that even if you do have years of experience and know the breed and animals well, things happen. Let`s just help out where we can. Also, I don`t wish anything bad on any of our mommies to be here......... hell I have had 4 kids........... but let me tell you, I had two that were preemies........one 5 weeks early one 8 weeks early and I can tell you there is nothing that the "professionals" can tell you that makes you understand why this happens. It was not fun, and I hope for every mommy to be that they never have to go through what I did with my girls. Being in the hospital surrounded by professionals did not make me feel any better when I watched my daughter struggling to breathe and then be intebated. Just some food for thought. |

Many people think cats can't get pregnant while nursing. This is not true and they can go into heat and get pregnant long before the kittens are even weaned.
Please be careful that there are no more mistakes! |

Thanks Sammie
At least now anyone who reads this thread will know how to take the comments you make. I personally would probably not take your advice based on the fact that you for some reason feel you have to shove it down the persons throat before they would get it.
This may very well be the person you are, or it could be some major preggo hormones, but do you really feel you have to be so forceful? The response to my posting about my preemies was, believe it or not, completely predictable........... it`s just unfortunate for you that you turn off when others have something to say. IMHO, I actually think that you could very well be a nice person on the inside, too bad you don`t want to show it. |

Yeah, I guess you're right. What the heck.... you win, satisfied?
I'm not going to have this childish argument with you here... If you have something to say, please do it in a PM. If you don't like my post, so be it.... then PM me... you don't like personal attacks out on the board, why should you treat me the same way, and it be fine? I give respect where respect is earned. Any further comments should be directed to my PM box and leave others out of your problems. The response to your premie post was disregarded because of your witty like "just some food for thought" comment. |
