Degu diet

I just found out my sister bought a pair of male degus from the pet store (I totally gave her an earful about it, and told her she could have got them from a rescue..but nothing we can do now)

Anyway. I have to admit they are cute.

I was wondering if anyone has had them before? My sis is away this weekend and I am to drop in and feed and water them. I was wondering if there is any special treats I can give them (fresh veggies or fruit?)

give them guinea pig pellets, grass, hay,fresh fruit. Them need twigs and wood to chew on. Good luck

I actually spent some time on the net looking for info and most sites said no fruit, as degus can't digest sugar properly. They also need a low fat diet.
