Black spot with white edges?

Hello,
I have a lovely little mix terrier dog Saoirse, she has a black mole like spot on her belly approximately 1/4 -1/2 cm in diameter, not fully round that has a very white 2-3 mm boarder around it. The hair appears intact and it does not irritate her. Does this sound like something to be concerned about? Does anyone know what this might be and what I can do about it?

Thanks so much!
Northgirl

Is it raised or flat?

Hmmmm...sounds peculiar. I think I'd be inclined to have it vet-checked, Northgirl. Dogs can get melanomas, too. With luck it will just turn out to be an odd mole or freckle, but it would worry me till I had it checked. (Having said that, though, I do tend to be a worrier where it comes to the dogs. )
