Fleas... and ticks!!
My dog Elvis is a little over one year old. He has fleas pretty badly and usually we find ticks about every other day. He used Advantage but it really did not work at all. Is there any way to cure the flea and tick problem besides Advantage or other creams?
If it makes a difference, he spends most of the day during the week in a kennel in our back yard. We wash him about once a week with a flea shampoo. |

So he is not an inside dog? If, he is than why do you keep him out during the day. Outside animals are more pron to ticks and fleas. Have you contacted your vet about this yet? Did you use the medicine the right way. I know alot of questions but it is easier for everyone to help if they know all that is going on!

He is inside whenever we are home--I have school during the day but summer starts next week. We need to contact our vet, and my mother should be doing that soon. We used the flea medicine exactly as it said. The same medicine had worked before on him when he was a puppy--could it just be too weak?

The longer the dog is exposed outdoors the more likely to be infested with fleas and ticks.
The fleas will be in the kennel and in the ground surrounding it, you will not prevent them from biting your dog initially. I'm not a big fan of kennels for this reason they end up infested and even if you get the fleas off your dog as soon as they are back in the kennel they get them again. It's like a war zone for the dogs!

Would washing out the kennel and bedding more often be helpful? We really have no choice when my sister and I are in school but to put him out there.

I use Frontline, by Meriel. Never had a problem...

Give your dog apple cider vinegar in his food. 1-2 tbsp per 75lb I think I'll double check that amount though. Anyways acv makes their skin acidic which fleas and ticks I've heard don't like.

Yay!
Yay! The fleas and ticks are gone! We gave Elvis some Frontline, and washed out his (disgusting and flea/tick infested... yuck) bedding, and they are gone! Thank you all for your help!
Thanks a bunch! Sarah |
