Exclamation Crusty lump on Maltese neck

Hi! I was giving my Maltese a good rub on the neck when I notice a lump. At first I thought it was a ball of hair but after getting a light I noticed it had dried blood around it. It is a raised lump on her. I'm not sure if related at all but she had a small round of fleas that got her which we got rid of. She got them even after being on oral medication so this is not from medication being applied on the neck. If anyone has seen this or knows please let me know ! I attached the best image I could find.

Thanks for the help!

Any chance your pup was bitten? It looks like a small puncture that's scabbed over. I would clean it up a bit removing the dried blood etc but don't wet the scab. Keep wound dry and monitor for any infection or oozing in which case I would recommend a vet visit.

It does look like some sort of reaction to a bite.

I agree with Lynne's advice, and I'd maybe add a little dab of OTC triple antibiotic ointment into the mix.

(Also, would love to see the rest of your little one if you have time to share some pics from further away! )

I agree. She was getting bitten by fleas in the same spot and scratching like crazy in that spot. We are trying to train her to use the bathroom outside and living in Houston where all the floods have been the fleas from squirles and mosquitos are crazy. I find a little flea even though she is on RX vet oral flea/tick/heart worm meds. I will keep it clean and see if it heals up. If not she will be having herself a trip to the vet 😜

Oy! Stay safe! And I hope she heals up before a trip to the vet is necessary!
