Our dog tries to eat grass - is it ok?

When we go for our daily walk to the park Jermy (our GSD) tries to nibble on some grass (the taller grass, not the kind we have in our yard).

Is it ok? Is there any benefit to this?

It is not definitively know why dogs eat grass, but it does provide fiber, some nutrients and chlorophyll. Dogs have been doing this forever
The only disadvantage is that often after consuming grass they vomit.

Our dogs become especially fond of grass in spring and then again in fall. Sounds like Jermy is on the same schedule. We've asked vets about it in the past and there are evidently a number of theories as to why dogs eat grass, none of which have been proven...and, of course, I have asked the dogs frequently why they do it, but they don't divulge their reasons. The vets seem to agree, though, that as long as the grass is pesticide- and toxin-free, it doesn't harm the dogs to eat it.

It doesn't hurt them but to be on the safe side you should only let them eat the grass in your own yard as long as you don't use chemicals on it.....you just don't know if other places have been treated.
