The little brat.

So a few of you may have read about the food problems we've been having with Guinness. Once he started to show that he was visibly losing weight I knew there was a problem. I also knew he wasn't sick because he gets excited when I have his food dish, just dissapointed when I put it down. So, we picked of the Chicken and Rice Holisitic kibble for puppies, as suggested, he tried a few kibbles in the store and seemed interested. I also bought a can of wet food.
He showed mild interest in the kibble, so I added one scoop of the wet food - and he went crazy! I have never seen a dog shove his head in a bowl like that.

I churn up the kibbles with the wet food and set it down. The little brat actually brings the kibbles into his mouth, sucks all of the wet food off of them, spits them onto the carpet, and takes some more out of the bowl!

But I don't want to feed him wet food. It's sticky, and icky and smells bad. I just wanted to peak his interest, but now it's all he wants.

sorry, he sounds like my cats! Is he teething, maybe the crunchy kibble hurts his mouth?

He was so sick in the car yesterday because of how unsettles his tummy was, which is very unusual for him. I thought their was blood in his vomit and I freaked, but after some poking around I discovered it was a fiber from the cherries he loves to sniff out on the lawn.

I don't think he is teething... He hasn't been whining at all and is playing normally, a little bit better since he has eaten a bit more than usual. Is there any other way to tell? I could try wetting it down I suppose.
I took the food dish away, because I don't want him to get the idea that this is a restaurant and he can just send his food back and hope it comes back with more wet food to slurp. I'll try again at 11, and wet everything down.

I don't know how to tell if they're teething. When mine was, he seemed to want to chew on things more actually. But if his gums or teeth hurt, I can see how he wouldn't want to chomp down on crunchy kibble. How big is the kibble? You could also try finding him smaller rounded kibble so he can just swallow it. Or, as someone suggested in the other thread, give up and just feed wet food only

The Nutram was a very small, hard kibble. The Holistic Select is more like Origin in shape and texture - bigger and softer. I just don't want to feed him wet food for my own selfish reasons... But I might end up giving him and giving him the good stuff anyways.

I wonder if anyone could do a price comparison for me. My boyfriend insists that it wouldn't be much of a difference, especially if we were buying Cesar from Wal*Mart - but how good are those TV name brands - Pedigree, Cesar, etc?

I would not feed any canned food that you can buy at Walmart or any supermarket. If you want to feed canned it should only be the brands you have to purchase at the pet store like Wellness, Innova, etc.

I agree, I would suggest Merrick, it's not icky and sticky, its chunks and gravey, easy to mix in and a can last a long time.

They do teeth, all pups do, and I dont think they show signs of it like kids would do...so I would agree that he's teething...I'd give some ice cubes to play with...

I wet down his food and that seemed to help. If he does not adjust we will switch to wet food.
