Woman accused of hanging dog inside animal shelter
The hunt is on for the owner of a Caledon dog rescue centre who is being accused of hanging a dog inside a Toronto animal shelter this past summer.
On Aug. 24, the woman brought a Shar Pei named Henry into a Toronto Animal Services facility on Sheppard Avenue for the purpose of transferring the dog to the facility. Toronto police allege the woman then went into a room and hung the dog using a leash she had brought with her. Workers in the facility managed to get the dog down, but he was already dead. The woman then took off. Police say they believe the suspect runs Scooby's Dog House. Toronto Animal Services initially handled the investigation internally, but called in Toronto police in December. Suspect Rita Mueller, 50, is wanted for killing or injuring an animal, causing or permitting unnecessary pain and disobeying a court order. She is described as white, five-foot-four, 115 lbs., with blonde hair and blue eyes. She frequents Peel Region and the City of Barrie. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (416) 808-3100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (416) 222-TIPS (8477).
